History
Franklin County was created during the American Revolution, and was named after Benjamin Franklin, the foreign minister to France at the time. Franklin’s negotiations with France helped gain financial and military support for America, which eventually led to the country’s independence. As a result of the U.S.-France alliance, the town of Louisburg was named in honor of King Louis XVI of France.
