Welcome to 1344 Pine Grove Church Road. This legacy property was one of the first land grants at Lake Keowee and is a real find. A classic lake home built in 2012 took the place of the long beloved a-frame structure that once sat here, expanding the footprint to three times its original size. Entering the front door, the first thing you’ll see is the gorgeous lake view, which continues through the family room, dining room and sitting room onto the screened in porch. Entertaining is a breeze in this kitchen with a 4 burner with griddle gas range, a huge stainless steel fridge and a stunning view of the woods outside. The home boasts five generous sized bedrooms and four luxurious bathrooms, one bedroom even has a secret room with bunk beds in the closet. The primary bedroom has beautiful lake views and a spacious bathroom with dual sinks, a huge enclosed shower and a cast iron claw foot tub perfect for a relaxing soak. In the backyard, down a gentle slope, you’ll find the lake with your own private boat ramp. The pictures don't do this justice, there are NO STEPS and a paved driveway to the lake, its a very gentle slope. Your family and friends will be spoiled with no wait times at the ramp and it’s easy to winterize all your boats and jet skis. The boat slip can accommodate three boats and even has a fully functioning boat lift. This property is spectacular. It sits on four heavily wooded acres, consisting of two, two-acre parcels with no HOA fees. Keep it all to yourself or sell off the undeveloped parcel for another lake view home. This home is being sold fully furnished. Come see this lovely lake house today and make 1344 Pine Grove Church Road your home away from home, vacation home, or investment property.

History

The word “Keowee” is roughly translated to a Cherokee name meaning “the place of the mulberries.” Before Europeans settled in North America, Cherokee Native Americans lived in the area and called the settlement “Keowee Town,” which was located along what they called the Keowee River. In 1753, settlers built Fort Prince George across the river, and the Indian Removal Act of 1830 forced the Cherokee out of the region.

In 1963, the South Carolina Land & Timber firm began purchasing land along the river in order to acquire, hold, and develop land and timber properties. Duke Power Company then purchased 83,400 acres from the Singer Corporation and various private landowners. In the mid-1960s, Duke began making plans to supply the southeastern US with greater electricity through a reservoir project. In 1965, Duke Energy announced plans to begin the Keowee-Toxaway project, which would cost an estimated $700 million. As construction began, archaeologists from the University of South Carolina discovered thousands of artifacts, including pottery and human and animal remains, during the excavation of the Cherokee settlement. The demolition and building project took several years to complete, and the initial transfer of water and commercial operation began in December 1973.
